Managing Dependencies

In the Gothsec/Astro-portfolio project, maintaining a modern and secure codebase is a primary concern. Recently, we performed a dependency update to ensure the project benefits from the latest features and security patches provided by the Astro framework ecosystem.

The Challenge

Keeping project dependencies updated is often overlooked, leading to "dependency rot." In our portfolio, using an outdated version of Astro meant missing out on performance optimizations

For a long time, my portfolio site was a static collection of pages. It was fast and efficient, but it lacked a connection to the reader. I wanted to add a simple feedback mechanism, so I decided to integrate a 'Like' button into my Astro-portfolio project using Firebase.

Regularly updating these packages is like performing routine engine maintenance on a car—it keeps everything running smoothly and prevents surprises down the road.
